Oral feeding


To provide nutritional intake to the patient who is unable to feed himself/herself pre-sitting self-care deficits in feeding.

Objectives:

– Administer the appropriate diet to the patient according to his/her needs, health situation, cultural aspects, and religious beliefs. – Administer the necessary nursing care in the intake. – Educate the patient and family in the care of oral diet administration.

Equipment:

– Glass and dishes. – Table. – Towel. – Tray.

Material:

– Prescribed diet. – Flexible straws. – Cutlery. – Napkins. – Soaker. – Nursing records.

Observations:

– Postpone the meal if the patient was fatigued. – If possible, adjust the diet to the patient’s lifestyle.
