Other patient positions: Lithotomy (gynecological) position

Set of activities to mobilize a patient who is unable to move on her own.

Objective:

To provide the proper position for gynecological examination, washing of genitals, bladder catheterization in women, administration of medications, contrasts and sampling.

Equipment:

– Entremette. – Articulated bed or gynecological stretcher. – Pillow.

Material:

– Non-sterile gloves. – Nursing records.

Procedure:

– Follow general rules in the mobilization of patients. – Remove underwear if available. – Place the bed in a horizontal position. – Place the patient in the supine position. – Ask the patient to bend the knees perpendicular to the bed and spread the legs apart. – Cover the abdomen and genital area with a tuck-in. – Elevate the head of the bed with a pillow. – Leave the patient in a comfortable position at the end of the examination or technique. Indications: gynecological vaginal, rectal and bladder examinations, childbirth, gynecological interventions, genital lavage, bladder catheterization in women, manual or instrumental pelvic examinations and examinations in pregnancy.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
